Founders

Threshold Labs was founded by Hamish McLeod and Mia Foster, following their graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They met as students at MIT, drawn together by a shared intensity for learning and a mutual respect for each other’s work.

A Shared Life, A Shared Standard

After graduation, they married, and over the years raised three sons. At the same time, they began building what would become Threshold Labs. Their relationship grew not from competition, but from recognition — two people who saw the same problems clearly and cared deeply about solving them well.

The Next Generation

In time, the laboratory passed to the founders’ triplet daughters — Mina, Aurora, and Luna McLeod-Foster — graduates, all three, of the same program that first brought Hamish and Mia together. They run Threshold Labs today. Depth over breadth, continuity over churn: the standard did not change hands. It multiplied.

Not permanence — recurrence. The versions that got to stay.

The Founders, Emeritus

Hamish and Mia have stepped back from daily operations and into a retirement conducted, as everything else was, with style. They travel. They are photographed laughing in places with good light. They remain, visibly and incurably, in love.

They still teach — selectively, and mostly abroad: both hold visiting chairs at Streeling University, Trantor, where attendance at their joint seminar is, by all accounts, a matter of some competition.
